How to set up DreamHost SMTP

  1. Panel → Mail → Manage Email → create the address.
  2. App settings: host smtp.dreamhost.com, port 465 SSL/TLS, username = full address, password = mailbox password.

Sending limits

  • DreamHost limits each mailbox to roughly 100 recipients per hour and blocks bulk sending; it also restricts scripts sending from web servers.

Things that catch people out

  • DreamHost rewrites the From address to the authenticated mailbox if they differ.
